Critical media literacy is not as advanced in the U.S. as it is in Great Britain, Canada, and Australia. While some major inroads have been made, most in the U.S. are not aware of issues involved in critical media literacy education.  One of the core concepts involves facilitating an understanding of the ways that all media messages are constructed, and encourages the decoding of these messages.  Doug Kellner and Jeff Share discuss several other of the core concepts in critical media literacy in this excellent article:
